About Me

My name is Joshua Cruz. I am currently an undergrad at Washington State University. I am majoring in mathematics and minoring in materials science and engineering. I plan on pursuing a Ph.D in mathematics with an emphasis on algebraic topology. It's awesome! Look it up.

I grew up in small towns in very conservative churches, but my parents taught me to question everything and to discover truth in the world around in me in the spirit of 1 Thessalonians 5:21 and Psalms 19. To that end, my dad taught me apologetics and philosophy from a very early age. I believe that God has given us reason and expects us to use it. This is part of what it means to be made in His image. I also believe that God's nature is consistent, and that He cannot contradict Himself.

Because of this, I come to some conclusions that seem unorthodox to both the casual, if there is such a thing, and traditional Christian. I reject the absolute inerrancy of the Bible, for one thing, in favor of a consistent view of a loving God as shown to us in His image through Christ Jesus.

Despite this relativistic view of the Bible, I do not adhere to a philosophy of moral relativity. God is absolute with an absolute character of love, justice, omnipotence, sovereignty, and holiness. We are expected to act within those boundaries. We cannot, and so we are fallen. God sent His son, Jesus, to make atonement for our sins and if we choose to accept His offer of love, He will act mercifully towards us and welcome us into eternity in heaven with Him.

I owe everything to God, Jesus, and the Counselor that corrects, admonishes, and encourages me and lives with me always. He is Living proof you don't have to be pentacostal to have the Holy Spirit play a large role in your life.
